2020

Modern Builders were ecstatic to wrap up 2020 with the amazing news that their first new home build had won a Master Builder’s award.

The company’s Shaw Rd show home was announced as a winner in the 2020 Master Builders Awards for a new home up to $450,000 for the Bay of Plenty/Central Plateau area.

The home first won a Local Gold Award, given to entrants who achieve 90 percent of the available points and are judged to be at least 80 percent above industry standard.

Then, being the highest-scoring Gold Award winner led the home to becoming the Local Category winner, as well as being selected as one of the top 100 homes in the country across all categories.
Kent says that as a first-time entrant in the competition he had not been expecting the win.

“You’re up against Tauranga, Taupo and Rotorua, so it’s quite a big area,” he says.
“Master Builders said that it’s quite rare for a first-time entry to get a regional award. Which was cool.”

The Shaw Road show home, built to a plan called Greenwood 188 that Kent worked out with a local architect, was completed
in November last year and was open to the public for a few weeks over the Christmas period. It sold early on and they handed the keys over to the new owner the day before New Zealand went into level four lock-down.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home has high-class, quality fittings and open-plan living opening to a covered outdoor deck. A galley kitchen has a handy serving window to the alfresco area, and there is a separate, formal lounge. Extra-high raking ceilings provide a light and airy sense of space.
